These terms are the conditions on which you may use yumma.co.uk. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

What Yumma is
Yumma is a community-built map of meals under £12. Prices come from two places: menus published by the venues themselves, and people who have been there and told us. Venues are discovered from OpenStreetMap rather than sold listings.
Yumma is not a restaurant, an ordering service or a booking service. We do not prepare, serve or supply any food listed here, and we have no relationship with a venue unless that venue has claimed its own page.
Who can use it
- You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, use Yumma with the agreement of a parent or guardian.
- You must use the site lawfully, and in a way that does not restrict anyone else's use of it.
- You must not use it if we have previously ended your access.
- You are responsible for anything done through your account or browser session.
Anonymous scouts and scout names
You can browse the whole map and Yum-vote without an account and without telling us who you are. Your browser is signed in anonymously and that is enough.
Contributing is different, because a contribution goes up with a name on it. Before you add a place, a meal or a photo, you pick a scout name. That name is public and permanently attached to what you contribute.
The conditions on a scout name:
- 3 to 20 characters, letters, numbers and underscores.
- It must be free — names are unique across the site, first claimed, first held.
- It must not impersonate another person, business or Yumma itself, and must not use a brand you do not represent.
- It must not be offensive, misleading or chosen to harass someone.
- Once claimed, a name belongs to that account. Ask us if you need it changed.
- One account per person. Creating extra accounts to vote, contribute or evade moderation is a breach of these terms.
We may reclaim a name that breaks these conditions, and we may end access to an account that repeatedly does.
The scout system
Scouts are the people who find and verify what is on the map. Contributing advances counters on your profile, which unlock badges — for adding places and meals, for clarifying details, for adding photos, for launching a city. Beyond the default scout role, the site recognises curators, moderators, city ambassadors and administrators.
The conditions attached to all of it:
- Badges, counters and roles are recognition inside Yumma. They are not property, they carry no ownership of any content or venue, and they cannot be transferred or exchanged.
- Standing above the default scout role is granted by us. Displaying a role does not by itself grant any additional access, and access is decided on our side.
- Yum votes decide what ranks highly. They never decide what exists: a venue is listed because it is real, not because it was voted for.
- Vote manipulation ends your standing. That means voting from more than one account, automating votes, or arranging votes with other people in exchange for anything.
- We may correct counters, withdraw badges and reverse contributions that came from inaccurate, invented or bad-faith data.
- Launching a city or joining a moderation team is a commitment to keep that city's data honest, not a claim over it. We may reassign it.
The rules for what you contribute
Everything on this map is only worth as much as its accuracy. So:
- Only add a price you have actually seen, on the venue's own menu or in the venue itself. Say where you saw it.
- Never invent a venue, a meal or a price, and never guess one that looks plausible.
- Fix what you find wrong. If you cannot edit it, report it.
- Photos must be yours, or ones you have permission to publish. Do not upload menus, artwork or photographs belonging to someone else, and do not upload identifiable people who have not agreed to appear.
- No promotional content, no listings placed to advertise a business, and no content posted on behalf of a venue unless you have claimed it.
- Do not post other people's personal information, and do not post anything abusive, discriminatory, misleading or unlawful.
- Do not use the report tool to attack a business you have a grievance with. Reports are for things that are wrong, not things you disliked.
Your content
What you contribute stays yours. By contributing it, you grant Yumma a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store, publish, adapt and distribute it as part of Yumma and in material describing Yumma, and to allow others to display it as part of the map.
You confirm that you have the right to grant that licence for everything you contribute, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
Contributing is voluntary, and creates no obligation on either side. Because other people rely on what is on the map, a contribution stays published even if you later stop using the site — though you can ask us to detach your name from it.
The site itself — its design, its code, its name and its logo — belongs to us. The compilation of the map database is ours as a database. You may link to any page, and quote from it with attribution.
Claiming a venue
If you represent a venue, you can claim its page. Verification is a one-time code sent to an address at the venue's own domain, so you can only claim a venue you already have an email address at.
- Claim only a venue you are authorised to represent.
- A claim gives you responsibility for that page's accuracy, not a right to advertise on it.
- Prices you publish must be prices you actually charge.
- Misusing a claim ends it, and may end access for the account that made it.
Accuracy, allergies and what you should check yourself
Please read this part properly.
Prices and details on Yumma are contributed by members of the public and read from published menus. They go out of date, and they can be wrong. Check with the venue before you travel for something or rely on a price.
Dietary labels — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and the rest — are taken from the venue's own menu headings. They are a starting point for browsing, not a safety guarantee, and they say nothing about how the food is prepared or what it may have come into contact with. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, ask the venue directly, every time. Do not rely on this site for that decision.
Opening hours, addresses and whether a venue is still trading can also be out of date. Tell us when you find one that is.
Moderation, suspension and removal
We may edit, hide or remove any content, and restrict, suspend or end any account's access, where content or behaviour breaches these terms, breaks the law, or damages the accuracy of the map. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
If you think we have removed something wrongly, write to us and say so — we would rather correct a mistake than defend one.
Things you must not do
- Systematically copy, scrape or bulk-download the site or its database, beyond what robots.txt and llms.txt permit.
- Use automated tools to vote, contribute or submit reports.
- Interfere with the site's abuse prevention or rate limiting, or attempt to bypass its security.
- Probe, scan or test the site's security, or access data that is not yours.
- Upload anything malicious, or anything intended to disrupt the service or its users.
- Misrepresent your relationship with Yumma, or present the site as your own.
Other sites and services
Yumma links to venue websites and shows map data from OpenStreetMap and CARTO. Those are not ours, we do not control what they contain, and linking to them is not an endorsement of them.
Availability
The site is provided as it is and as it is available. We may change, add, withdraw or discontinue any part of it. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, always available or free of errors.
Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Subject to that, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your reliance on a price or detail on the map, from the food, service or conduct of any venue, from content contributed by other people, or from the site being unavailable.
If you use Yumma as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected by anything here.
You agree to be responsible for loss we suffer as a result of your breaking these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or your use of Yumma, are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the place you live, and may bring proceedings in your own courts.
